The Third Stream Quartet's focus is cool jazz / third stream style. In order to achieve a distinct chamber ensemble sound, there are no drums in the composition. "Third stream" is a term for the fusion of jazz and classical music. Very typical examples of the "third stream" are the ensemble "The Modern Jazz Quartet", as well as M. Davis and G. Evans' records "Miles Ahead", "Porgy and Bess" and "Sketches of Spain". The quartet was also inspired by the drumless trio sound of legendary jazz clarinetist and saxophonist Jimmy Giuffre.
Indriķis Veitners is a jazz saxophonist, clarinetist and pedagogue, a researcher of Latvian jazz history and the founder and head of the Latvian Music Academy Jazz department. Eriks Miezis is a young and promising vibraphonist and composer, who graduated from the Basel Music Academy in Switzerland, actively composes and performs together with Miķelis Dzenuška, the Latvian Radio big band and many other jazz ensembles. Pranas Kentra is one of the brightest Lithuanian jazz guitarists, the head of the Jazz department of the Lithuanian university Vilnius Kolegija, and together with the well-known Lithuanian trombonist Jievaras Jasinskas plays music in the contemporary jazz ensemble "Broken Glass Quartet". Andris Grunte is one of the most experienced and professional Latvian jazz double bassists who regularly performs with leading Latvian jazz musicians and bands.
