Jazzaggression Records

Bio

Jazzaggression is a Finnish jazz-focused record label founded in 2007 by Johan Fredrik Lavik.

The label began after Lavik and friend Lars Findbrouk unearthed unreleased recordings by Webster Lewis, inspiring Lavik to pursue forgotten and obscure jazz.

Driven by a lifelong passion for sampling and vinyl digging, he has built a small but diverse catalogue that spans Estonian 1960s bop, 1970s soul-jazz, and modern Finnish avant-garde.

Lavik discovers music through online research and archival digging, often collaborating with other label owners.

Dedicated to vinyl as the ideal format, Jazzaggression—along with sister label Afro7—issues carefully crafted, limited-edition releases that frequently sell out.  THis includes reissues of the rare 1967 Bird Curtis Quintet album and an unreleased Paris Smith Quintet track. The label is recommended for anyone wanting to explore rare jazz and jazz inspired artists both old and new.
